Originating in Australia and with stores throughout New Zealand, Jay Jays opened their first outlet in South Africa in April 2006 and now has 62 stores nationally. The target market is high-school and university shoppers who don't want to blow their budget.
Ackermans serves most South African urban centres through its national chain of almost 400 stores. These are in easily accessible locations in terms of public transport and the proximity of other essential shopping and customer services. There are 17 stores in Namibia, 9 in Botswana and two each in Lesotho and Swaziland.
