The Pepkor Data and Analytics team is looking for the professional expertise of an experienced and driven Project Manager to work on the development and implementation of data science and related projects and programmes in close collaboration with the Pepkor Data and Analytics team leads, department head and various business leaders. The individual will take responsibility for managing strategic and cross-functional data related projects in support of the company’s strategic goals as well as leading projects from inception to conclusion. This includes initiation, planning, execution and closing of multiple projects through best practice, managing the people, resources and scope of the project in line with business objectives and expectations. The project manager will be working closely with our external partners; our internal Pepkor support partners and Pepkor Group representatives in delivering workable solutions and managing stakeholder relationships



  • Define and manage a well-defined project management process and champion ongoing process improvement initiatives to implement best practices for Agile Project Management,
  • Formulate a Project Management strategy with related processes and templates for the Pepkor Data & Analytics teams,
  • Identify PMO resource requirements, people and systems, and procure based on approved business cases,
  • Identifying new opportunities, collaborating; design; developing and implementing solutions that are aligned to strategies,
  • Assist in team development while holding teams accountable for their commitments, removing roadblocks to their work; leveraging organizational resources to improve capacity for project work; and mentoring and developing team members,
  • Coordinating, controlling and directing the activities of all staff and project team members to ensure the project success criteria are met,
  • Working closely with the internal Pepkor support partners; to implement workable solutions and optimize the use of current systems and processes,
  • Working closely with the 3rd party solution partners in delivering workable solutions; ensuring objectives are met,
  • Manage several projects concurrently (multi-tasking),
  • Support the Product Owner in managing customer expectations for project deliverables, managing stakeholder communications, and helping to implement an effective system of project governance,
  • Ensure that business objectives are met and that deliverables are delivered to time, within budget and that the appropriate quality standards are met.



  • Formal Project Management qualification and a BA or BS degree, MA or MS is a plus
  • A proven track record of successfully implementing software or web development projects using Agile methodologies including 8+ years of experience as a Project Manager managing large, complex projects in a high-tech development environment with multi-function teams.  PMP preferred
  • Solid understanding of software development life cycle models as well as expert knowledge of both Agile and traditional project management principles and practices and the ability to blend them together in the right proportions to fit a project and business environment
  • Prior experience with SCRUM/Agile methodologies with enterprise-level application development projects. PMI-ACP, CSM, or equivalent preferred
  • Sufficient level of technical background to provide highly-credible leadership to development teams and to be able to accurately and objectively evaluate complex project risks and issues
  • Ability to provide leadership to business analysts and collaborate with customers and develop strategies and solutions of high business value
  • Basic knowledge of Cloud computing experience i.e. Google Cloud; WMS; Azur would be advantageous
  • Basic knowledge of data security, data analysis or data design
  • Competencies required: Attention to detail and excellent time management skills is key. Self-sufficient, pragmatic, managing multiple initiatives/projects simultaneously (multi-task), be  able to work independently and in teams, strong problem-solver with the demonstrated ability to identify issues, and solve them quickly; comfortable working in a fast-paced environment; be able to mostly autonomously plan, execute and report  on initiatives/projects, analytical thinking, decision making,  communication, and interpersonal skills, an agile and adaptable mind-set, being a team player, results driven.
